Peek-a-boo!

Retirement

It's time to retire this cute little outfit. It's the one Shortie wore home from the hospital, and she's totally outgrown it. She wore it last night as a nightgown, but now it's headed into retirement.

A day of firsts

Let me start this post by updating our faithful readers with news from the doctor after Shortie's one month check up. She now weighs 9 lbs. - 4oz. (up from 7 lbs. 6 oz. at birth), is 21 1/4 inches long (up from 20 1/2 inches at birth) and her head is bigger (I don't remember either measurement). Go ahead and make all the big head jokes you want - her daddy and I know we've got big heads :). The other day Thomas came home with a bouncy chair from one of his colleagues. We have a glider, which we got to act as a swing (it's smaller than a swing, and since our apartment is small and rather full, we thought the glider would be a good substitute), but it doesn't really do much for Shortie. She usually starts crying after about 3 minutes in the thing, which we've dubbed "the baby shaker." So, I thought that today we could try out the bouncy chair, which is really just a different style baby shaker. What a difference! She still gets fussy at some point, but she can hang out there for like 10 minutes. And I can leave the room and she's still happy when I come back! Yay for the new shaker! Here are some pictures: Next up in our day of firsts, is Shortie's first home video*. We have a video camera, which we dutifully took to the hospital to get a video record of Shortie's birth, or maybe some footage of her first car ride, or even her first day in our house. But none of those things were recorded with the video camera. Today, Shortie was spending some quality time with her friend, Firefly, and I thought, "gee, this would be nice to have a video of, but I don't want to go get the recorder, and it probably needs new batteries, etc." Then, ding-dong, I remembered that my digital camera has a video feature. Hello!! So, here is a video of Shortie interacting with Firefly. She was quite talkative before I started recording, but she still had a little in her for the camera (make sure your speakers are on if you want to hear her babbling). Three things to note: 1. This video might not work very well. I've never done this before, and I make no guarantees as to the quality of the recording. 2. That awful high-pitched squealing you hear in the background is our fancy washing machine. Nice, isn't it? 3. You'll hear me say that Shortie is one day shy of 5 weeks, but that's a lie. She's two days shy of five weeks - not that it matters all that much. * The video is very large and it's taken me over 24 hours to try to upload it to this blog. So, this weekend, Thomas is going to compress it so that it won't take so long, and so you all will actually be able to view it.

Evening

At the end of a long, hard day, it's great to snuggle with Daddy...

Sweet baby

Shortie has to be the sweetest baby I've ever seen (no offense to all those other VERY cute babies I've seen). Here are some pictures of her from the other day. It's hard to believe that she's almost a month old...

Aunt Tricia comes for a visit

Aunt Tricia came for a visit and we had a fun, busy time. We went downtown to the mall (and we rode the BART to get there!) one day, and another day we went to the art museum and had tea and sweets at the Four Seasons. Such a busy baby! Here is a photo from one of our less busy times.
